Denver flights ‘clear for takeoff’

The United States Department of Transportation has given the ‘clear for takeoff’ in regard to the new service request involving flights to Denver.

Earlier this month, SkyWest Airlines filed a request for change in service pattern. That request was followed up with a joint letter of support signed by Matt Johnson, Chair of the Fort Dodge Regional Airport Commission and David Flattery, City of Fort Dodge Mayor.

The order approving alternate service pattern was issued yesterday by Todd M. Homan, Director of the Office of Aviation Analysis. According to the order, the request for change met the 3 requirements laid out in the Code of Federal Regulations. Those requirements are: (1) the alternate service pattern is equal or greater than that determined to be essential; (2) the community does not object to the alternate service pattern; and (3) the alternate service pattern will not increase the carrier’s subsidy.

The order goes on to say that because the Department is simply allowing the alternate service pattern and not requiring it, SkyWest may revert to the original service pattern at any time.

The alternate service goes into effect May 21st. Itineraries reflecting the change are already available at united.com and many popular travel websites.
