Police Appointments, Vehicle lease exploration, Crossroad payment on agenda

The Fort Dodge City council will handle a few other items that may be of interest at their next regularly scheduled meeting.

There are two police officer appointments on the Agenda for tomorrow night’s meeting. Constancio Gomez and Ethan Krieger are both on the agenda for appointment as Police Officer.

The City of Fort Dodge will also look into exploring lease options for some City owned vehicles. According to a memo from Ryan Maehl, Assistant City Manager, city staff have been looking for strategies to reduce financial pressure on day to day operating budgets. According to the memo, requested action does not commit the City to acquiring any specific number of vehicles, but rather authorizes staff to continue discussions. No request for any new dollars is contained in the action.

The City Council will also finalize the groundwork to borrow $4.2 million dollars for a promised tif payment to Crossroad Plaza Development. This payment is part of a redevelopment package that was committed in January of 2020 to revitalize the area around the former Crossroads Mall. This latest loan will also be paid from TIF (tax increment financing) funds. The Memo from Chad Schaeffer, Chief Development Officer, to the Council advises “The developer has created sufficient Tax Increment from the development of Corridor Plaza to finance and fund this General Obligation Urban Renewal Loan”.

The Council meeting will be Monday, June 22nd at 6:00 PM in the Council Chambers at the Municipal Building.
