Budget Workshops Continue; Garbage Increases Proposed

The Fort Dodge City Council will meet again Monday, continuing budget discussions ahead of the regular business meeting.

The City Council will again meet at 5:00PM to continue budget workshops. Up for discussion this latest workshop will be stormwater utility, sanitation enterprise, central garage revolving fund,
inspections / rental & nuisance, planning / development services, TIF (Tax Increment Financing), and SSMID and CSSMID (Self-Supported Municipal Improvement District / Corridor Self-Supported Municipal Improvement District).

The sanitation portion of the budget presentation estimates a $900,000 fund balance, but expresses the need for upcoming truck and cart replacements. It is estimated there are $1,000,000 worth of carts that are out of warranty and nearing the end of useful life. The end of the sanitation materials shows a proposed rate structure increase that could be put forth to the Council at a future meeting. Currently, the City charges $16.25 per month for garbage services. The proposed rate structure calls for $17.00 for FY (fiscal year) 2027, $18.00 for FY 2028, and $19.00 for FY 2029.

Budget workshops begin at 5:00PM, with the regular business meeting starting at 6:00PM. They will be held in the Council Chambers of the Municipal Building.
