The Fort Dodge City Council will again consider some parking regulation changes at their upcoming meeting on Monday. The changes are being brought to the Council by Police Chief Dennis Quinn and approved by City Manager David Fierke for consideration. The first reading of the change took place at the December 23rd Council Meeting, and was passed. This will be the second consideration of the proposed changes.
One of the changes will be a requirement for vehicles to be plated and have a validation sticker present to be parked on in public places, such as streets, alleys, or public parking lots. Under current ordinance, a vehicle without plates would only be taken into exception when the vehicle is considered abandoned and subject to tow.
Another proposed change will be prohibiting vehicles from blocking sidewalks. Currently, is a violation to park on or across a sidewalk.
Unattached trailers, regardless of size, would also be subject to loading and unloading time limits under the proposed changes. These trailers include camping, utility, and boat trailers.
Part of the changes to be considered also include ticket fees. Currently, a general parking ticket fee is $15. Under the proposed increase, the fee would be raised to $20.
Housekeeping changes to the current ordinance wording, such as reference to parking meters and the previous parking permit system is being omitted, as well as changes on exactly where to pay fines.
