Iowa Ethics Board investigates sign placement

The Iowa Ethics and Campaign Disclosure Board recently investigated the placement of a campaign sign in Fort Dodge.

A formal complaint was filed, alleging the Lahn for Governor Committee violated requirements outlined in Iowa Code Chapter 68A and corresponding administrative code prohibiting the placement of campaign signs on corporate property.

According to the docket, the property location was reviewed by Board staff and it was determined the sign location was corporate property. The property location was listed as 4000 5th Avenue South in Fort Dodge, belonging to Decker Truck Line. The Board reached out to the campaign, and they indicated the signs had already been removed.

According to Iowa Law, campaign signs shall not be placed on property owned, leased, oroccupied by a prohibited contributor, which includes corporations.

Following the campaign’s remedial action and with no further allegations outlined, Iowa Ethics Board staff recommends dismissing the complaint. The action will take place at a future meeting.
