The Fort Dodge City Council will kind off the Fiscal Year 2027 budgeting season tomorrow evening, just ahead of the regularly scheduled Council Meeting. The budget workshops are scheduled to begin at 5:00PM and include water, sewer, road use tax, and Fort Dodge Fiber.

The regular portion of the Council meeting will begin at 6:00PM.
The Council will consider adopting nuisance assessments for multiple properties across town. Included on the list is an assessment for the removal and disposal of miscellaneous items from September at 1520 1st Avenue South, owned by Frank Hurdle. That property is the site of the recent facade collapse that closed down 1st Avenue South towards the end of November. Another assessment was for securing property in August at 205 South 8th Street, owned by Harvest Baptist Church of Fort Dodge. That location was involved in a fire this last July.
The City Council will also consider amending their Iowa Reinvestment District Program Application. The original application encompassed areas including and adjacent to Corridor Plaza. The Iowa Legislature made changes to the program this year, allowing larger areas to be added to Reinvestment Districts. Much of the proposed area to be added to the District lies along 1st Avenue South from the Matt Cosgrove Rivers Edge Discovery Center extending East across town back to the original area Reinvestment District at Corridor Plaza. The proposed addition also includes the Budget Travelers Inn at 1st Avenue South and 3rd Street, and some properties along Central Avenue between 7th Street and 12th Street. The Iowa Reinvestment District Program
allows for tax money generated to be reinvested back within the district.
A final consideration will also be made to rezone city owned property near 5th Avenue South from residential to commercial.
As usual, the 5:00PM Workshop and 6:00PM meeting will be held in the Council Chambers at the Municipal Building.
