The Fort Dodge City Council will consider reassigning the Animal Confinement Contract at the regularly scheduled meeting Monday.
According to the communication from City Manager David Fierke to the Council, the current operator of City Pound – Pups and Paws Pound – informed the City they would no longer be operating after the end of this month. In that notice, it was advised Webster County Animal Protection would be taking over the remainder of the contract.
The previous contract was executed in 2023. According to the updated addendum up for consideration, the contractor will change from Pups and Paws to Webster County Animal Protection, and canine / feline distemper and rabies vaccination will move from a contractual reimbursement to actual reimbursement of the amount charged by the veterinarian providing the service.
In other animal news, the second reading of an ordinance update regarding chickens will be heard. The updates to that ordinance are to provide clear direction and resolution to complaints the City’s Inspection Division has received. The updated language will provide guidance to deal with rouge un-owned or wild chickens roaming around and steps for City staff to resolve problems
