Central River District Work to Continue, Outdoor Plaza Timeline Adjustment

The Fort Dodge City Council will consider taking another step forward in the continued development of the riverfront Monday evening.

The next proposed action includes a multi-purpose plaza, kit restroom, pergola structure, and other landscaping and site amenities. The bids called for an overhead large shelter structure (57′ x 120′), front porch overhead structure including front porch swings, a 20′ x 20′ restroom building and bike racks.

There were six responsive bidders for the project, with Jenson Builders being the low bidder. Their bid was for $1,635,795 – which includes the base bid and bid alternate #1, a 32′ x 6′ x 12′ overhead entry structure. The continued work will pair up with the work in the area completed by Webster County, including the Matt Cosgrove River’s Edge Discovery Center

Switching to the other end of 1st Avenue South, Crossroads Plaza Development is updating the Council of delays in their Outdoor Plaza construction. Originally scheduled to be substantially completed in October, the project is now targeting the end of May 2026. The reason for the delays are attributed to post-bidding design revisions, material lead times, and early winter weather impacts.

A drone photo was been provided to the Council to show development of the Plaza is well underway.
