A Des Moines driver died in a rural Webster County crash Thursday afternoon, according to a crash report filed by the Iowa State Patrol. The collision occurred just after 4 PM at the intersection of County Road P-29 (Baxter Avenue) and US Highway 20.

A 2011 Honda Fit driven by 82 year old Hal Chase of Des Moines was Northbound on P-29 when it reportedly failed to stop at a stop sign. A 2023 Lincoln Nautilus driven by 78 year old Diane Witt of Arcadia was traveling Eastbound when it broadsided the Honda Fit.
Chase, Witt, and a passenger in Witt’s vehicle, Stacie Segebart of Westside, were all transported to Trinity Regional Medical Center by Fort Dodge Fire Rescue. Chase was pronounced deceased at the hospital.
The Iowa State Patrol was assisted on scene by the Department of Public Safety Commercial Motor Vehicle Unit, Department of Natural Resources, Webster County Sheriff’s Department, Moorland Fire Department, and Fort Dodge Fire Rescue.
